Vice President of Marketing and Communications


AArete is looking for a Vice President of Marketing and Communications (VP). The Vice President of Marketing and Communications (VP) plays a critical leadership role within the firm. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the VP will work collaboratively across the organization while leading, mentoring, and managing a team of six direct reports. The VP function will be focused on four main areas:

• Increase AArete’s overall brand awareness, integrating the firm’s vision and mission

• Develop content strategies and distribution plans, including in-person, digital, and social
• Build a culture where the marketing, business development, and delivery functions collaborate, and drive decisions informed by reliable market-tested data
• Increase visibility of AArete’s community involvement and volunteerism

The successful candidate will be a professional with demonstrated success leading a marketing and communications team, preferably in a professional services firm, with a strong belief in the mission and is motivated to build a world calss brand.

Primary Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP: Strategic planning | Leadership-ready reporting | Presentations | Meeting facilitation | Budgeting | Management functions:

•  Act as the firm’s brand champion; leading strategic marketing and communications efforts to strengthen the firm’s brand identity, reach, influence, and impact

• Develop and mentor an internal marketing team through disciplined brand processes and leveraging established workflows.

• Bring a strategic market perspective and audience-centric point of view to the Executive Leadership Team

• Be a leader, listener, and educator while developing cross-functional initiatives with diverse internal clients

• Embrace an entrepreneurial culture that encourages bold and innovative ideas while balancing the need for brand consistency

• Work with the executive office to ensure clear, transparent communications

• Manage external vendors - including public relations, creative services, event planners, photography/videography, printing, etc.


MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS: Creative direction | Writing/editing | Media planning | Project management | Internal communications | Vendor management:

• Develop and enforce consistent key messaging framework, aligned with new strategic plan, to support the company’s mission and promote its brand

• Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of an integrated marketing, PR, and communications strategy - including social media, print and digital content, email marketing, programs, and events

• Lead the production of all content and materials to support the company’s owned, paid, and earned media, including events

• Provide hands-on marketing and communications support to clients, including the executive office, consulting teams, Finance and HR

• Lead the development of bold, creative external campaigns to reach target audiences and motivate them to take an action

• Develop key metrics framework to monitor results and enable data-driven marketing decisions

• Develop and nurture trusted relationships with local media and community partners

MARKET DEVELOPMENT: Collaboration | Strategic alignment | Holistic approach | Tracking:

• Partner with leadership to develop and implement effective strategies aligned with the priorities of the company

• Leverage technology to create new ways to tell stories, educate stakeholders, build connections, and support the growth and evolution of the company

• Support the growth and development of signature products and services

• Work cross-functionally to evaluate the ROI on existing products and services and develop go-to-market strategies for new products and services

• Oversee the development of winning proposals



•  Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or 15+ years of progressive professional experience with a focus on integrated marketing communications

• Deep technical skills in brand, strategic planning, creative direction, market research/advertising, team dynamics and successful team leadership

• Demonstrated experience creating long-term (1-3 years) strategic marketing plans that connect marketing goals and strategies to overall business strategies, with metrics that quantify success

• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including presentation skills, persuasive pitching, writing, editing and verbal communications skills, with the ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies

• Experience leading a creative team to implement strategies and achieve goals, with a proven ability to mentor, coach and identify and develop talent

• Experience managing multiple vendors, understanding vendor pricing and expectations

• Strong project management experience working closely and diplomatically with diverse teams, managing tight timetables and multiple large projects with different “clients” simultaneously

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
