PURPOSE OF JOB:

This individual will work as Team Lead for the Windows Team with strong experience in Exchange and VMWare support. This individual will provide enterprise infrastructure support, lead all windows systems management functions and participate in the design and implementation of windows systems and will manage other team members to provide support and engage in system architecture decisions. Responsibilities include installing, supporting and maintaining servers and other computer systems; preparing for, and responding to, service outages and other complications in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner; and managing a team of administrators within the parameters of program performance expectations. This position will oversee operations and administration activities related to the performance of routine, preventive, predictive, scheduled, and unscheduled actions aimed at maintaining system availability by preventing equipment or system failure or reduced performance, with the goal of increasing efficiency, reliability, and safety of the facility, IT equipment, systems and applications. In addition, this position is a technical escalation point, a project manager, leader and mentor where the infrastructure support includes compete lifecycle support for all hardware, software, to include operating systems, applications, and emerging technologies. The work encompasses all planning; analysis; integration; testing; implementation; operations and maintenance; information assurance; cybersecurity; and final disposition of all component. Infrastructure includes approximately 100 Physical Servers, 84 Virtual Servers hosting 528 Virtual Machines, 50 SAN hardware. Environment includes: VMWare, SUN, HPUX, RHEL, and Microsoft.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high availability for all infrastructure resources within the Data Centers
  • Provide technical and functional activities required for full integration of all physical server and virtual server environments
  • Perform system analysis to provide functional and engineering requirements for all requested infrastructure deployments.
  • Design, develop, evaluate and integrate fixes/patches and enhancements through all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Conduct technical reviews to identify application support and technical infrastructure enhancements.
  • Perform analysis, testing and development on emerging IT technologies that benefit to the Infrastructure models.
  • Ensure tools; Host Based Security System (HBSS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Compliance Checker (SCC) are used for system security compliance.
  • Maintain a Configuration Management (CM) program that addresses all existing and
  • new enterprise infrastructures.
  • Maintain inventory architecture and baseline inventory documentation.
  • Execute applicable Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) controls for all systems within this task.
  • Ensure all aspects of Disaster Recovery (DR) are operational and tested.
  • Perform all remediation actions for compliance, Center for Internet Security (CIS), and vulnerability scan violations.
  • Develop Plan of Action and Milestone (POAM) as required.
  • Ensure, maintain and recommend Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices for infrastructure alignment with business needs.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 8 to 12 years of server systems engineering and administration experience
  • 5+ years of VMware virtualization design and implementation experience
  • Hands on hardware and software trouble shooting skills
  • Excellent technical and strong quantitative, analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Experience with server management in a similarly sized systems environment (150+ servers)
  • Familiarity with SAN and NAS storage administration in a Windows Server environment
  • Experience utilizing an enterprise monitoring solution for capacity analysis and troubleshooting
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows servers, networks and clusters.
  • Experience with Windows Server architecture design and implementation
  • Demonstrated experience with best practices for Windows Server 2012/2016 install, support and configuration
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, and file/print services.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS (2008 – 2016), Exchange (2010 – 2016), Active Directory design, and PowerShell v4.0 or above
  • Strong knowledge of with TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS protocols
  • Demonstrated experience design and implement Group Policy to secure and configure systems, automate tasks and package deployment within the Windows environment
  • Demonstrated experience in data backup/recovery design and implementation for both physical virtual environment
  • Demonstrated experience performing system security hardening to comply with Federal security mandates
  • Demonstrated experience installing, upgrading and configuring applications within a Microsoft Server IIS environment
  • Must be able to pass a government security background check
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Compliance and familiarity with government policies and directives on Information Assurance (IA) and Cybersecurity
    • RMF, NIST, STIG

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting .NET
  • Familiarity with SAN and NAS storage administration in a Windows Server environment
  • Familiarity with load-balancing technologies and infrastructure firewalls
  • Prior experience as a mid (or greater) engineer for a federal agency 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Desired: CompTIA Security+, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA-Security ITIL Intermediate, VMWare Certified Professional (VCP), VMWare Certified Professional- Data Center Virtualization (VCP-VDC), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), MCSA, or MCSE.
