Job Title: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Blacksburg, VA (Can work remotely)

1901 Group provides IT services through the use of an integrated cloud-based platform that enables monitoring, management, and optimization of IT environments that span on-premise, co-location, and cloud computing environments.  Our “as a service” model (XaaS) embeds all of the people, processes and technology necessary to deliver highly efficient IT services on a 24x7x365 basis.   


This role will work closely with the Development and Operations teams to support the design, automation, and deployment of cloud infrastructure and applications. A successful candidate will have technical experience in building infrastructure and applications for scalability, resiliency, availability, and recovery. A key portion of this position will be to help migrate systems from a traditional infrastructure deployment model to an infrastructure as code model with automation and monitoring via DevOps.


This role will design cloud infrastructure with a focus on AWS and Azure using industry best practices.  The Cloud Engineer will work across the company to deliver Cloud infrastructure strategies aligned with business objectives, with a focus on Cloud migrations. Provide thought leadership in infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques including application migration into the cloud including.  This will include design, implementation and support of infrastructure automation, research new cloud technologies and prototype solutions that can be leveraged to decrease costs and increase performance, and mentor existing staff on cloud computing best practices and technology to drive cloud adoption.


  • 5+ years experience with building and maintaining production environments in large-scale consumer enterprises. 
  • 3+ years of practical experience with many of the following components of AWS: VPC, EC2, ELB, EBS, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM, DirectConnect, RDS, SNS, SQS. 
  • Fluent in AWS CLI. 
  • Experience with high availability and scalability in AWS.   
  • Proficient in creating technical documentation & diagrams using Visio or similar.




  • Experience with configuration tools like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.  
  • Production experience developing, configuring and supporting monitoring systems, alerting and analytics. 
  • Experience working in a continuous delivery environment. 
  • Possess customer facing skills that will allow them to represent 1901 well within a solution providers environment as well as directly to our customers.


Bachelors degree in relevant technical field is desired, but not required.


Required: AWS Solutions Architect - Associate (or equivalent from Azure or Google)
